The German Watch and Guard Dog Services PLC (Deutscher Wach- und Schutzhund Service, DWSS) is headquartered in Blumberg and was established in 1992. The company is a well-known service provider in the security, service and training industry in both the Old and New Federal States of Germany. One of our specialities lies in the deployment of police and guard dogs.

DWSS PLC has established a good reputation as a reliable partner in particular in Berlin, Brandenburg, Frankfurt/Main and Munich and at shareholder meetings of international companies such as Siemens and DaimlerChrysler. The DWSS staff have proven their expertise to the full satisfaction of the customer at all times.

The supply of security and service staff as well of police dog handlers is available and can be arranged at any time, also in large numbers.

The mentioned highlights are a constant reminder to us of the quality level required of the security industry. However, our work is not only based on them but also on the many ‘small’ events and services that we take equally seriously.

Geschäftsleitung und ZwingerteamAspects of the deployment of guard and watch dogs in the security industry of today

We require from all of our staff to be fully trained in their area of activity. The necessity of a combination of theoretical background and practical work as well as technical expertise is self-evident. Why should´t this also be the case for the deployment of police and guard dogs? Here lies one of our major strengths. The correct implementation of all aspects of the task at hand for the guard dog makes all the difference between simply holding the leash and professional police- and guard dog handling.

The following assignment details demonstrate the importance of a correct and complete preparation, education and training of dog and dog handler and explain how important our dogs can be to you.

The use of guard dogs is a very old tradition, which from in our opinion has not lost none of its importance. The Italian Petrus de Crescenti described the requirements on a guard dog in terms of appearance and characteristic already in his agricultural textbook in 1494. They do not differ much from the requirements of today.

Especially in times when the need for security is growing in the commercial as well as in the private sector, the guard dog still has his place in the security service, despite all technical surveillance options.

From our perspective, there are three key aspects to the deployment of guard and watch dogs, with different relative importance depending on the type of application:

  1. More sensitive perception of the environment due to the much better developed senses of smell and hearing. The dog can become, especially in object security and patrol at night, a valuable help to his human team partner, noticing unusual events often earlier than his handler.
  2. One uses the psychological aspect of its presence in the team “human and dog”. To strangers the dog is a non-calculable, deterrent factor, which can lead to abandon the originally planned action. This preventive impact plays a major role in the usage of dogs in the security industry, especially during events and safety activities in public areas, i.e. local public transport in big cities.
  3. The third function is the additional safety and protection for the human team partner. This important job-definition of the dog applies to all forms of usage and constantly gains in importance due to the increasing tendency to violence.
